I began photographing in 1999 with a used Pentax K1000 my older brother left when he moved. In 2001, I graduated high school in a small village in Northern Michigan and enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a Photographer's Mate. From 2001-2008, I traveled the West Coast and South East Asia viewing the world through a Sailor's lens. After the service I returned to Michigan and achieved a BA in photography from GVSU's School of Communications.
In 2013 I began working with Grand Rapids Ballet for my senior thesis on the aesthetics of body movement in art and athletics. I would like to thank all the dancers, choreographers and staff of GRB, for embracing me and allowing me to share art and life with them. After five years of hard work my dance photography began to be recognized by local and online publications. This dedication and recognition has garnered invitations to work with world renowned companies such as Alvin Ailey American Dance and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago.
Personally I enjoy the unusual and absurd. I am inspired by; paintings, poetry, literature, movement, the human body and its spirit. I am often captivated by landscapes and cultures. I prefer using available light in the majority of situations. I enjoy working in a team atmosphere that encourages discourse and constructive criticism. Every day I seek to learn and grow.
